Heavy Equipment Mega Machines – You Have To See These Extreme Machines In Action

BERTHA – Tunnel Boring machine
Bertha is a 57-foot-diameter (17.4-meter) tunnel boring machine built specifically for the Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement tunnel project in Seattle. The tunnel boring machine was supposed to finish the tunnel in December 2015, however, it started on July 30, 2013. In December 2015, the Washington State Department of Transportation predicted that the tunnel will be finished and open to traffic in early 2018.

SLJ900/3 – Bridge building Machine
The SLJ900 / 32 is a special construction machine used by the Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company to build bridges in prefabricated construction. The 580-ton ship is 91 meters long and 7 meters wide. The SLJ900 / 32 has 64 wheels, divided into four groups of 16 wheels. Each unit may pivot 90 degrees, allowing the entire unit to drive sideways. The SLJ900/32 has a weight of 580 tons and a length of 300 feet. The Shijiazhuang Railway Design Institute created it. This machine is used to build bridges in C, extending itself between pillars and placing beams along the way.

Mammoet – Self-propelled modular transporter
Mammoet’s self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) is a platform vehicle with a large number of wheels. SPMTs are used to transport massive objects such as large bridge sections, oil refining equipment, motors, and other items that are too big or heavy for trucks. SPMT is made up of different modules with 4, 5, 6, and 8 axle lines. The load capacity varies by version, with a maximum of 44 tons per axle line.

Bucket Wheel Excavator Bagger 293
Bagger 293, also known as the MAN TAKRAF RB293, is a massive bucket-wheel excavator that was built in Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴʏ in 1995. It can move about 8.5 million cubic feet of the earth every day and requires a crew of five to operate. The Bagger 293 has a large 70-foot rotating wheel at the end of a long arm. A series of buckets are attached to this wheel, and when the wheel rotates, the buckets pick up the earth and dump it onto a conveyor belt. The earth will be transported by conveyor belts to other vehicles for disposal at the dumping site. It also holds the Guinness World Record for the highest terrestrial vehicle, which it shares with Bagger 288.
